200 Hour Programs:

Pain Management

     Learn how to apply acupressure and neuro-muscular trigger points for relieving pain. Discover how to enhance an athlete's performance, increase muscle tone and physical endurance. Learn stretches, points and bodywork skills for warm-ups before an athletic event and warm-down routines for after strenuous exercise. Discover how Asian bodywork can give athletes the competitive edge and how these ancient techniques can be a vital treatment for enhancing sport medicine. Learn specific acupressure points and hands-on techniques for relieving injuries, the theory behind this ancient healing art and specific pains in the body. The Acupressure Institute's 150-hour Basic training or the completion of a bodywork program is a prerequisite.

ACUPRESSURE FIRST AID
Prerequisites: None
12 Class Hours

Learn first aid responses for emergency situations. Discover acupressure points for heart attack, seizures, general pain, joint injuries, back and neck injuries, common colds, burns, cuts and other first aid applications. Class includes discussions, hands-on sessions, role-playing and handouts for emergency situations.


ACUPRESSURE'S POTENT POINTS
Prerequisite: None
Text Required: Acupressure's Potent Points
12 Class Hours

Provides hands-on point location, self-care, and clinical applications for relieving common ailments from A to Z for working with clients.


ARTHRITIS RELIEF
Prerequisites: Arthritis Relief at your Fingertips
10 Class Hours

A self-treatment oriented class that teaches you how to use Arthritis Relief stretch routines and the application of twelve anti-inflammatory points to lead arthritis relief self-help groups.


ASSESSMENT & APPLICATIONS I
Prerequisites: Basic, Intermediate & Advanced Acupressure Classes
15 Class Hours

Learn the four methods of Seeing, Hearing/ Listening, Smelling, and Touching. Learn to incorporate this information in assessing clients through the 8 Principals and 5 Elements.


ASSESSMENT & APPLICATIONS II
Prerequisites: Basic, Intermediate & Advanced Acupressure Classes; Assessment & Applications I
15 Class Hours

Learn to deal with more complex or "knotty" issues in clinical focus sessions.


CHI GUNG FOR BODYWORKERS
Prerequisite: None
15 Class Hours

Learn to cultivate, focus, direct and apply vital energy (chi) doing bodywork. Learn Chi Gung body mechanics and their applications to bodywork. Learn to ground and harvest your cosmic chi for greater stamina and bodywork effectiveness. Learn the Macrocosmic Orbit to center yourself and balance the Central Channel. Learn Zhan Zhuang (standing meditation) for deep inner body awareness.


COUNSELING SKILLS
Prerequisites: None
12 Class Hours

Learn how to combine verbal techniques with bodywork to cultivate emotional healing. Work on your own attitudes that get in the way of being an effective counselor. Students also role play difficult situations for gaining new perspectives and awareness to work with clients toward resolution.


CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY
Text Required: Atlas of Human Anatomy
15 Class Hours

Introduces and explains the Craniosacral system. Learn techniques for harmonizing specific cranial bones and the sacrum. Develop palpation skills to balance the cranial rhythm while using key acupressure points. Supervised practice of fundamental Cranial Sacral Therapy Skills included.


EMOTIONAL RELEASE
Prerequisite: Basic & Intermediate Acupressure Classes
15 Class Hours

Learn to use communication and counseling skills. Discover how to guide and focus awareness to cultivate and facilitate an emotional release. Learn points and emotional correspondences for each Chakra.


EXTRAORDINARY VESSELS
Prerequisites: None
15 Class Hours

Learn advanced point formulas based on the Basic Acupressure class. Study the Extraordinary Vessels through hands-on practice and theoretical instruction. Learn how each vessel flows and functions to bring deeper balance.


HEALING IMAGERY I
Prerequisites: Basic, Intermediate & Advanced Acupressure Classes
12 Class Hours

Learn the four foundational skills of imagery. Practice these skills and receive feedback. Discuss practical ways of integrating Guided Imagery into your practice. Focus on special needs and advantages of combining bodywork, relaxation, and dialogue with Guided Imagery.


HEALING IMAGERY II
Prerequisite: Healing Imagery I
12 Class Hours

Develop and refine skills introduced in Healing Imagery I. Learn advanced Imagery skills such as Grounding, Evocative Imagery, Parts Work, Inner Conflict Resolution, and Inner Child Work. Focus on discussing selected case studies from students' own practices.


MAJOR MEDICAL DISORDERS
Prerequisites: Basic, Intermediate & Advanced Acupressure Classes
Text Required: Tsubo
15 Class Hours

Study the mechanisms involved in major medical disorders to provide a more accurate assessment of clients. Learn about your own level of skill and knowledge so you know when and how to refer clients to appropriate specialists. Explore the changes, loss and emotional aspects involved in major medical illnesses.


MOXA, CUPPING & MAGNETS
Prerequisites: Basic, Intermediate & Advanced Acupressure Classes
12 Class Hours

Study the history, precautions, and applications for using moxa. Learn moxa applications for deficient, cold or damp conditions. Use cupping techniques for sprains, cold and arthritis. Learn how to use magnets with acupressure applications.


NUTRITION FOR DEPRESSION AND PAIN
Prerequisite: None
12 Class Hours

Learn what foods support our emotional balance and contribute to depression, anxiety and chronic muscular pain. Key supplementation for balancing brain chemistry, nourishing nerves and building healthy joints and muscles will be discussed. Learn strategies for changing common destructive dietary habits, the physiology involved in a holistic nutritional approach and Chinese dietetics.


PRACTICAL TREATMENT POINTS
Prerequisites: Basic & Intermediate Acupressure Classes
Text Required: Tsubo
10 Class Hours

Learn hands-on techniques for locating points. This class will cover how to relieve many common ailments such as nausea, indigestion, colds, and bronchitis. Explore clinical applications of various health conditions.


REFLEXOLOGY & ACUPRESSURE
(Basic Training Elective)
Four-week class or weekend workshop
Prerequisite: None
12 Class Hours

Course covers foot, hand, and ear reflexology points as well as acupressure massage and reflexology techniques.


REIKI
Prerequisites: Basic and Intermediate Classes
12 Class Hours

Reiki, a gentle hands-on healing technique, stimulates the body's own wisdom to get to the cause of the problem. Learn how to use your hands to channel universal healing energy.


THAI MASSAGE FOR THE BELLY
Prerequisite: None
14 Class Hours

Learn abdominal assessment and palpation. Special attention will be given to opening the breath and traditional Thai massage methods for approaching this vulnerable and powerful healing area of the body.


THAI MASSAGE: FRONT & BACK
Prerequisite: None
14 Class Hours

Learn how to use powerful Yoga-like stretches along with Shiatsu and other bodywork skills. Perform a full-body routine covering the front, back, and legs in prone and supine positions.


THAI MASSAGE: SIDES & SEATED
Prerequisite: None
14 Class Hours

Learn a full body Thai massage using side position stretches. Discover arm stretches and techniques for releasing shoulder and neck tension in a seated position.


ZEN SHIATSU FOR COMMON COMPLAINTS
Prerequisite: Zen Shiatsu
Text Required: Zen Shiatsu
12 Class Hours
Learn advanced Zen Shiatsu techniques along with potent points and meridian do's and don'ts. Home therapy and exercises will be taught to address common complaints and promote healing. Refinement of the Zen Shiatsu form and body mechanics will be demonstrated and practiced in class.
